Andy, they probably figured you were on a chip run, and the vehicle was being inspected mid-route.
Seriously, I have not seen that yet. I know that they were not doing searches at the Orleans, nor Palace Station, but that might be a function of off-Strip vs. on the Strip.
It was interesting that upon my departure (McCarran, Terminal C, Southwest), I spent 30 minutes in line (at 5:00 am) to get to the metal detector. I had two carry-on bags, with about 100 chips between the two bags (some lose, some in tubes and a 3-ring binder), a digital camera, two beepers, $20.00 in lose change, a pocket UV light and a Palm (Pilot). I was surprised when neither bag was singled out for a hand search.
I suspect that Paris may have been reacting to a specific threat.
