I am responding to Bob's post because of the title. What follows is something I found on another BB; a letter to a terrorist
>>>>>
I am...
...an American.
I have lived my entire life in relative peace and harmony. We do not condone senseless acts such as these. We are not to be dealt with in this way without responding. We may seem to you the embodiment of everything you hate, but I am not your enemy. Most of us grow up in this life no different
than I have, simply trying to enjoy what we've worked so very hard to earn.
Neither you, nor anyone, has right to put that aside. On that note, I should ask:
Did you really believe that what you've done would make the rest of us forget
what *we've* done?
...a daddy.
I fully intend that my children will live their lives enjoying the same relative peace and harmony. Given your history of a lack of respect for human life, I doubt it matters much to you what happens to my kids, but you really shouldn't make the mistake of assuming it doesn't matter to me. If you're senseless enough to threaten them in my presence, then I'm willing to prove to
you how much they matter to me. By the way, while we're on the subject of being a parent, let me ask you something: what did you teach your kids today?
...a veteran.
As such, I understand clearly when duty calls. There are great numbers who understand this call as well as I do. These are people who, at some point, decided that love of what they believe in was more important than themselves. I am aware you act from the same sentiment, but would pose a
question: if I offer to meet you with honor, on the field of battle, will you be there to face me as a man? Or could I expect that you'd go to my home to attack my wife and children, as a coward, while I stood on that field? How do you define your honor?
Anyone who tries can find weaknesses in our nation, but don't fool yourself. It's not really wise to tread on us. In the words of Admiral Isokuru Yamamoto, when speaking to his staff about the Pearl Harbor attack, Americans are "a proud and just people". Perhaps you don't understand what he did, but he was proven right
and whomever is foolish enough to do what you've done, will learn as well.
In the meantime, could I ask that you not affect others with your ignorance?
