Pete, you wrote:
"When you see something being done wrong by your government you can sit back and say well it could be worse, or you can speak up and say this is wrong and we have to change this."
From the article...
"'Not only is it a moral problem,' Ibish says, 'it's a violation of the law.'"
He's right.
"The federal government has issued a statement to air carriers and Delta Air Lines has reminded its employees that passengers not be singled out."
...sure doesn't sound like our government condoning racism here.
"Last week, Norman Strickman, assistant director for aviation consumer protection at the Department of Transportation, issued a statement that said, in part:
'We strongly encourage each airline to take steps to ensure that its employees understand that, not only is it wrong, but it is also illegal to discriminate against people based on their race, ethnicity, or religion.'"
Neither does that!
What this about isn't the government or bigotry or racism, it is about fear.
Also from the same article.
"'The pilot was uncomfortable with him as a passenger.'"
"... they've been refused seats on airplanes because crews or passengers have said they don't feel safe flying with them."
"Alasady, one of the Northwest passengers who say they weren't allowed on the plane, said he, his younger brother and a friend were told by an airline employee they couldn't board 'because the crew and passengers refused to go if you go.'"
Perhaps you have an instant remedy to remove the fears of airline personnel and passengers in the wake of the atrocities that occurred 9/11. Please share that with us all. I know the airlines would pay millions to find a way to magically erase the frightful images images burned into the psyche of the traveling public a few weeks ago. Tell them how!
A final quote from the article, made by one of the Arab Americans.
"'I feel that it's not the America I knew," said Kareem Alasady, one of the passengers. "It's a different America.'"
WE ALL FEEL THAT WAY!
Feel free to lift the unity ribbon.gif and post it with your notes.
