Reread the email.
I believe the quote was:
"I have yet to see any evidence that the current (pre-attack) system of
airport security as it relates to searching bags is not effective."
Now if you have seen evidence of how those weapons got the plane, that is something I haven't seen.
It is also not clear exactly what the weapons were and if they were allowed on because they were consistent with the regulations (that is to say that the weapons were detected but allowed past . . .) which is not a problem with the search procedures but a problem with the policy that allows them on.
