A fact that few realize is that a lot of software is written out of country. Pakistan in particular is heavily into this. I've seen speculation in the past that bugs can be written into the software for a major company for instance, to be triggered by a code years later that would corrupt the company's computer operations. Backdoors that would let others gain valuable company secrets would be possible too. Just another way to cause chaos in a superior enemy. I'm sure our military and national security agencies have the same weapons at their disposal. A timely bug in Iraq's military computers or one in Afganistan's banking sector and presto, their economy reverts to it's camel-based history. Would be nice to see some real serious penalties for mundane threats to our way of life like hacking and phone-in bomb threats.
