While I was in the hospital, I had plenty of time to keep track of the news as it unfolded as well as time to ponder the events. Something strange I saw was the government’s generosity to the airlines. They were going to give them 2.5 billion, that’s right, BILLION for losses during the grounding, future losses associated with this terrorist attack and the subsequent airline groundings. For many airline companies this could be the breaking point for them financially. This got vetoed, but it is being reconsidered.
Point to ponder here: These companies who would receive this money are the SAME ones that allowed the hijackers to access FOUR aircraft (due to incompetence) causing all this to begin with? These same companies that were paying minimum wage to much of the security force? These same companies that were fined (some over a million dollars) for past security violations? These are the same companies who many had been warned of the potential breeches of security? These are the same companies who hired many felons due to complete lack of background checks? All while the CEO’s lined their pockets?
Question: What’s wrong with this picture?
Sadly, I am seeing some airlines laying off 12,000 people and cutting operations 20%. I have not seen any CEO's, board of directors, or high ranking officers in these same company doing any 'belt tightening' on their part to minimize these inpacts. I don't think this will be the end.
