I'm not wishing for a nuclear strike Larry, I'm just saying don't rule it out.
You can't construct a hydrogen bomb that would fit into a container the size of a briefcase. Containing and shielding weapons grade plutonium in the quantity needed (about 6 pounds) for a mega-ton nuclear weapon wouldn't be something that you could carry around by hand.
Airport security at the level that it was before this attack would have detected a nuclear weapon being imported for use in this country before it got loaded onto a commercial airplane. The terrorists would have to construct such a device here.
As to those that also possess nukes, I can't think of one that has the capability to deliver such a weapon to our soil that isn't already an ally concerning this attack.
