Professional polls are random selections based on demographics which are representitive of the overall body for which a position is sought.

The opinions posted in public forums such as this bulletin board are from those who are motivated enough to spend a great deal of their time responding to every little post that occurs that they dislike. Those who are less motivated, who do not wish to be attacked or who couldn't care less do not participate. Therefore an accurate cross section cannot be obtained. Even a Referendum Vote of the membership would probably not have a return rate of 50% (meaning the the other 50% is disinterested). That is why I have been pushing for an educational effort -- to get the uninformed & uninterested involved.
