Re: Freedom of Choice
In Response To: Re: Freedom of Choice ()

If I weren't as strongly opposed to the grading/slabbing of casino chips as I am, I would still have many concerns.

Bear in mind that coin grading is not only based upon grade but also mintage. This could not follow suit in the chipping community. A perfect example is the recent find of Thunderbird chips which drastically devalued the few that were known to exist prior to the find.

One of the problems that exist with grading is uniformity, you yourself stated that you may buy a chip at one grade but be expected to sell it at another.
It should not come as a shock to you that chips are removed from their holders and re submitted until the desired grade is reached.

In a recent post by Marv Weaver he showed a Sacagewea dollar thet was graded at MS 67 for $25 and one at MS 68 for $125.
I would be interested to know how someone could disatinguish this minute difference and whether they could do in consistantly.

Bear in mind that the majority of us are colectors not profiteers. We do this as something we have a passion for we don't do it for the money.

Would I be disappointed if someone told me my collection is worth more than yesterday of course not. Would it matter NO. I am after all a COLLECTOR
