Not so much a situation of early or late but more an issue of deliberately rebidding with seconds left. Like others have said it doesn't give the other person(s) time to respond. There is just something excessively aggressive about it. To me it sometimes seems unfair. All I know is it bugs the hell out of me when someone does it to me. I guess that is why I do it more as a response to someone who won't put in a straight bid. I just don't like getting into these little things where you bid and someone places 6 incrimental bids to find out how much you bid. Then you reconsider and they place three more bids to outbid you again. Then... . Then you find yourself spending about 5 or 10 bucks more than you wanted for something you "had to have". You are right though about high bidder wins.
