I went to Canon's website and put your description through their Knowlege Database. This doesn't perfectly match your description but this is the best match that it came up with. I don't know if you have seen it yet. Per Canon Tech Support, Check the following. Does your printer beep when the yellow/orange(?) light is lit?
Solid Orange Light, Printer is beeping up to five (5) times
When the BubbleJet series 5000 POWER/ERROR light is orange, a printer error has occurred. The printer beeps to alert you to the type of error condition as follows:
One beep - The printer is starting a maintenance procedure, such as cleaning the print heads or printing the test page.
Two beeps - An error condition exists, such as paper is out or jammed. Load paper or clear the paper jam.
Three beeps - The BJ cartridge in Holder 1 is damaged or is not compatible with this printer. Replace the BJ cartridge in Holder one.
Four beeps - The BJ cartridge in Holder 2 is damaged or is not compatible with this printer. Replace the BJ cartridge in Holder two.
Five beeps - The print head has become too hot. Allow it to cool. If necessary, turn off the printer.
