First of all, I don't think I would want to get caught doing it. They are only to be used at the casino that issued them. Some even declare on the token that they are "only accepted at ????" (the issuing casino) or "Redeemable Only At ????" Besides, they are probably more valuable to collectors. Especially if some or many date back to 79. You might consider eBay or trading or selling them to collectors at coin or chip shows etc. There might even be someone here that would be interested in a trade. If you don't want to go through the trouble just take them to a local coin dealer. Many of them might give you a few cents over the dollar. You would probably have more luck selling the whole lot to a dealer than selling piece by piece. Even if you get less than a dollar, on some, at a coin dealer you might be better off than dumping them in a machine. Remember that putting them into a Slot Machine you will probably loose them or at least about 5% of their value as many slot machines pay about 95% or less over time.
When in Las Vegas I always look at my tokens when I have a good hit. Sometimes, people do put them through other machines. Occasionally, find tokens that don't belong. I take them out and keep them for my collection. At The Orleans, I have picked tokens from my winnings from Stratosphere, NYNY and Main Street Station.
