I am still using dial up where I am lucky if AOL will give me 23K even with a 56K Modem. When I do get 44K I get punted in less than a minute. Our phone lines are underground with a high water table and they are really bad. I hear that due to line noise etc. they can't handle the speed. Ameritech is working on it but it is slow.

We now have brand new Fiber Optic running through our area and are waiting for Digital Cable Modem. ATT has not delivered yet on their promises. We were supposed to have it a year ago then they said January. When that was missed it was going to be April and now we are still waiting. We just got a Telemarketing call about 20 minutes ago from ATT wanting to upgrade our Cable. Maybe that is a good sign. I won't hold my breath though. I have heard about Digital Cable and the almost instantaneous connections and access times. It is a lot more expensive than my AOL but if I split it with my brother It shouldn't be too bad. It is supposed to be about $44 a month here. When I add my AOL under bring your own provider I add another $9. That raises my service from $24.95 to $31. I might even just get rid of the AOL except over half of my friends are there and I have a good email identity (screen names) there.
