I was wondering if the Sports Bar still had chips. I should have gotten some when they were open. I was in town. I could use some for my collection if anyone finds them. I think it was owned by the same Corp. that owns Stockmen's and Commercial.
OK things to do. Four casinos, two downtown (one block apart) two uptown Across the street from each other. Good food and the town is known for it's Basque restaurants.
Oldest courthouse in Nevada, that's a drive by, pawn shops and antique shops. If you are on the Red Lion trip, there is a golf course and last time I went it was $35 for 18 holes, including a cart and the clubs. That's cheap, and it's a PGA course, not some rinky-dink pasture. Free shuttle.
Red Lion will not take you downtown to the other casinos. You will find a little shelter next to Gold Country and a direct line to Stockmen's/Commercial, and they will send a shuttle to pick you up. You also get a coupon pack by showing them your Casino Express badge. $2 in nickles, three for two BJ, and that sort of thing.
Downtown also has a cowboy museum, which is free/donation and interesting, even if small. There's the 449'er bar with old Bill and some other antiques behind the bar. Video Poker, buy in for $20 and get your drink free.
Casino Stuff:
Stockmen's: 21 and slots. Craps, roulette, three card poker (or whatever they are trying this week) during peak hours. Silver Strike with only one design. Gift shop.
Commercial: See the huge polar bear and carvings. 21, slots, possibly Carribean Stud or Let it ride, it varies.
Gold Country: 21, slots, silver strike with four different coins, two varieties of each. Pool.
Red Lion: (the "big" casino) 21, slots, let it ride, spanish 21, roulette (2), craps. Get your cowboy poetry LEs here. Only game in town Poker, Keno, Sports book w/food. Gift shop and pool. Buffet is good, I haven't tried the upscale dinning room.
All the casinos have coffee shops and all had good food.
If you are staying at Red Lion or Gold Country (same owner) you can catch a shuttle to Holiday Inn (whatever it's called now) workout room and other excercize equipment.
Gold mine tours, and walking around town are entertaining. Yes, as others have mentioned the town is very friendly.
There's a large shopping center across from Red Lion, t-shirt outlet, liquor store, post office, Rite Aid, huge grocery store (with liquor), Taco John's, good shopping.
I was taking the trip two or three times a year, but have cut back to once a year. Nice getaway, and usually the flights come in in the evening and leave early in the morning, so it's more like two days and three nights. Can't beat the price, for me under $150 for flight, room and transportation to and from the airport. I loved March Madness in Elko, great fun.
Any questions? ;-)
