I'm sure it is a virus Bill, 'tho now I'm not sure what virus! Some of the Windows startup files had .kak file extentions on them. I had a KAK worm virus hit that machine last year, cleaned it out of the system then.
I reinstalled Win98 this afternoon to see what would happen. Same problems, but the corrupted .exe files are different files from what they were yesterday!
The hard drive gets wiped clean tomorrow. I've given up trying to fix the problem, and won't lose too much important data. I use this machine for diagnostic and design information (I deal in loudspeakers), and to check email and message boards during the day. All of my important business stuff like the company's financial records are on a machine that doesn't even have a phone line hooked up to the modem. ....not taking any chances there!
