1965 - 1.8 billion minted
1968D - 101 million
But CHIPS are like money... put the "collector" aside and apply the "purpose" of chips. Like money - chips represent a debt - and in the case of chips/ tokens... a debt to be honored by a casino (or issuing entity) - just like MONEY is recognized by the government (don't touch that comment - it IS questionable beyond "theory". Chips represent a debt to the one in possession of them... by the casino.
As Larry said, the gov't won't be "replacing" this old quarter with new ones minted with a 1968 on them. Like chips - they'll make new ones... they replace old ones... they'll compensate for those that disappear or are damaged or defaced. Just like casinos do with their chips...
BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO assessing a status of "obsolete" - as long as the issuing entity recognizes the debt and honors it - they are NOT obsolete. They are "current" and "good as gold".
