I think we've had this discussion before Jill, about chips vs. money. There was an article recently published in Coin World or Numismatic News that I cut out for reference, but am unable to locate, regarding obsolete two cent pieces and obsolete three cent pieces and other coins considered to be "obsolete", .... all of which are still redeemable for face value. But just like obsolete chips, most collectors value them more than their face value.
If a casino replaces the "current" LE that is no longer available with a new LE (for whatever reason)... to my way of thinking, the previously issued chip that is no longer available is now obsolete. One can justify circumstances any other way they like; but that's MY personal opinion of the term obsolete as it applies to chips.
