Here is a true story.
My father worked for Goodyear/Kelly Springfield at their Cumberland Maryland plant for 25 years and 9 months. During the last years of his employment there the union voted to give both wage and benefit concessions BACK to the company. The employees took wage cuts in an effort to preserve their jobs. In the end the company closed the plant anyway.
This next statement has shaped my views toward labor unions:
My fathers LAST paycheck from Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company had union dues deducted from it!! The union got their money until the bitter end and several thousand union members got to go stand in the unemployment line.
