According to TGT, an illegal in San Antonio--Castle Hills--closed in the 1940's. I played in games there for a couple of years in the early 1980's. Located at the same address and run by the same person mentioned in TGT. Many, many exciting stories--too long to go into here. Just how many clubs have you been in where they keep a fresh supply of ice in the urinals? Real class. There was an alarm system connected to the iron barred door directly connected to the local police dept. in case of hi-jackings. Several of the players kept pistols in their laps during games--not because of the game or the players--but because of fear of hi-jackers. I have seen many nights when there were 5 and 6 player poker games with over $100,000. in cash on the table. One of the bigger bookies in San Antonio was a regular player and he would sit by the hour taking care of bookie-business during games. Players from Corpus Christi, Austin, and Dallas would show up regularly--even some big name gamblers from Las Vegas. I remember making the acquaintance of a fellow who I learned was an "enforcer" for a couple of Loan Sharks who also were regular players. One day after I had played with him, they found his body shot-gunned to death in the trunk of his car. Lots more stories. Sometime later. CHIPS--in the early 80's I did not have the slightest interest. Don't even remember what they had. I am trying now to get my hands on some of them. Doug
