Sorry to hear about your experiences, but they parallel my own from about 17 years ago. Fortunately I had enough time in London to apply for membership (Internet?! What Internet?!) and play to get chips at the Victoria Casino. My attempts to get them from other clubs was a bust, like yours.

I especially loved the signs in the Tube stations that said "WAY OUT." And of course the roundabouts and flyovers.

Oh, and there were no winning punters at the Victoria the night I was there! Everyone seemed to be losing! The blackjack rules are terrible!
