Your example of "cameras'" is as a plural possessive, which is the correct usage of the apostrophe. The plural "camera's" is not correct. That said, though, I did realize that when a word ends in an "s" or an "x", an apostrophe is used to indicate a plural, so we'll call that one a draw. I have noticed recently that this incorrect apostrophe usage to indicate plurals is creeping into the language, and I'm just doing my small part to stop it
As far as the camera/film manufacturers, that was kind of another double entendre aimed at Sony, who makes film (photographic) and films (movies). I do know that you're not referring to Sony in your remark, since the company started a good eleven years after Canon began manufacturing cameras, but as far as going to Kodak or Fuji for a digital camera, I can only say that I personally would opt for a Canon, Nikon, Olympus, or that ilk. I can only offer my own thoughts, obviously, but I've heard of problems with Sony cameras and I just felt I should pass on that information.
Now, as far as Sony PHONES are concerned - don't even think...
