Sorry to hear about your Father.
As always, there are some things more important than debating a grading scale.
Your idea of a 10 point, might actually fly! (I've called the 100 point scale a flying pig.)
The easier the system, the better it can be understood by more people. Example. If the hot stamp is silver, instead of the original gold, deduct "X". If the chip has a nick deduct "Y", if the edges aren't sharp Deduct "Z". Something with an object system of factors that would degrade the value. Somthing like a shoping list that everyone understands and can follow.
The problem with sharp and rounded starts to get into "how much"? Are we going to have to have radius gauges and micromoters? (of course I add this in jest)
But just tossing out some ideas that fit with the current non-system / system of just simply describing each chip. If there just has to be a grade, at least use the KISS principle. (keep it simple stupid)
Maybe even look at the grading as a guide to the actual condition, where the individual description is still the main factor. And for that matter, grade in many, many cases has no relevance after all this.
Take it easy and make it through the hard times. Come back when you are feeling better and have rested. We'll all still be here!
