Jim, my father just passed away and I'm very busy taking care of things. However, I felt your interesting post deserved a brief response. Since the original publication of our system, James and I have been convinced that it is a bit too complicated and precise. To make a long story short, we would use a 10 point system now, with half-grades at 7.5 or better. That is how PSA grades baseball cards, for example. We would still use the basics of our system, but would symplify things a bit. I am reasonably confident that we could achieve at least 85% under these conditions. Your challenge is reasonable and a good idea. I don't have any energy left right now to deal with your suggestion, but in time, I would enjoy discussing this further.
