Except for the Fremont $25 and the brass core fisaco in Reno, I don't think any other chips have been counterfitted to fool a casino.
Everyday, casinos get altered chips. Example $1 chips painted to look like $100. Inlays changed on a chip that comes close. The problem is employees do not look close at them, or break down stacks when they are cashed.
Casinos call these "Altered Chips". They will not fool anyone that looks at them close.
Chips made to sell into the hobby as the real thing, when many of us don't know what the real thing looks like, are COUNTERFITS.
The Borland, Osborn, and now the brass cores are counterfits made for us.
