There were three 5� PAL'S CLUB chips in the "Newhouse '95 Find" from Columbus, Ohio.

When I entered Lot 153 in "Auction '96" (CCGTCC Auction) it was listed as "Unatribbuted (Circa; 1920'-30s)." I've spoken with players who not only lived in the Lake Tahoe area, but also collected chips from the area for over 35-years, and they never heard of the club.

Two very well-known California chip collector/dealers informed me that the club was in Lake Tahoe. Minutes before the auction started one of those dealers approached me to enter into a deal for the third example, My response was "no deal, as I'd rather see what the chip does, first."

Jim called the auction, and when Lot 153 opened two people started bidding. The reserve was $400. When the bidding reached $400, the wife of one of the bidders made a remark heard by everyone in the room: "Four hundred dollars seems like a lot of money for an unattributed chip." The price realized was $400+

I've come on this board (archived) and remarked that I would like to know the location of the club, but there were no replies except for one person saying that he would also like to know.

Unless someone who says they know the club was in Lake Tahoe is telling a fib (and there are others who had this chip in their collection prior to '95), I doubt there are any "Big Boys" playing around to have this chip stay at the level it has performed at. One of the two California dealers never owned the chip and the other has the chip in his collection. It's recorded that one of the two informed TCR that the club was in Lake Tahoe, and it's fact (per me) that both collectors offered me big bucks for the chip before the sale.
There is no reference to the club in the Washoe County license index from 1916 to 1937.

Now you know more than I do.
