I resemble that!!! Err... Hey wait a minute!!! That sounds really, really bad... I don't think it is, besides it keeps certian authors of the Nevada chip price guide busy...
Actually I too look at chip very closely - my background is in error coins and currency, that is why I look at chips so closely... Whey I was younger (much younger) I used to drive my mother nuts, as when she was getting her change back from the cashier at the store, I would spot a coin that was different and bugged her for it She was amazed at how I would spot it as it dropped into her hand from the cashier’s hand.
As for the topic at hand - yes I too used to "buy" in at a craps table and look through the chips I received for anything "interesting". Recently however, I have graduated to the point where I buy a rack of chips and look through them. I've gotten a lot of strange looks, ranging from the cashier calling the pit boss to get the o.k. (Jerry's Nugget) to the cashier calling the cage manager over who subsequently asked me why I'm doing this, and saying that I couldn't cash them back in without playing with the chips on the tables first!?!... The other was at the Flamingo Hilton when I was looking for the $5 with "Las Vegas" and the other with "Las Vegas, NV". The cashier said that all the chips were the same, yet still sold me the rack. When I returned, I showed her the two different chips, and she was surprised. She then went through her drawer after she sold me another rack. When I returned she showed me the ones she found, and sold them to me... She had fun too!!! And yes I did give her a nice tip…!!!…
One last comment, I recall reading a post from one of the LV locals that attended the opening of the Venetian, and they didn't know about the house mold chip until they went home to divvy up the bounty. That is when they found the house mold $5 chips. They decided to return and look for more, very few if any were found. I'm sure that there still may be a few (one or two...) on the floor - somewhere...

Dick
