I picked up a set of 18 foldout postcards copyrighted 1939. I have scanned some of then for you to see. What is really interesting is some of the commentary on the cover to the postcards. Gambling is not mention in the commentary, but the following paragraph is stated.

"Under the flashing multi-colored signs along its main thoroughfares at night, visitors from the far corners of the earth mingle with the motley crowd of miners, prospectors, ranchers and other local residents."

Looks like nothing much had changed.
