But I am not proposing standardizing CHIPS... that isn't my job - my right, in my authority or capacity.
I am proposing a color chart that we can use to ID chips sitting in front of us - REGARDLESS of their condition or defects - so that another party can recognize the SAME color - using the SAME guide for accuracy and everyone can make their evaluations from THERE.
And - IF this guide was CONSIDERED when defining new releases / discoveries - maybe the mass of NEW chips added to TCR yearly would have (a somewhat) consistent color description - thus preventing "multiple interpretations" from duplicating chips that are in fact "the same".
An example are the Tahoe "peach" and "lt. orange" - and "tan" and "gray" inlays... one would think these are FOUR different chips but they are simply people's different interpretations of their colors.
The TCR authors CAN'T PERSONALLY CHECK EVERY SUBMISSION AGAINST OTHER SUBMISSIONS... and CAN'T PERSONALLY EXAMINE EVERY CHIP TO VERIFY it hasn't been submitted yet... they use their judgement I am sure based on the Info provided. They are doing a GREAT JOB - but if 10 people each call a chip a different color - how can they know if they have ONE chip or 8 without requiring everyone to send it in for validation.
BUT if 12 people had a chart- and said the chip is XXX-color... and 5 people use the same color...and 3 are darn close... maybe that would indicate they are talking about the same chip.
This ISN'T about "correction" of anything - or "standardizing anyone" but "collating our own ideas" on what a color seems like to us. ~~~~ AND it is about PREVENTION at this point ~~ what we can do to prevent OUR errors... and inconsistencies. This is about "us chippers".. not Paul-son or Bud Jones manufacturing changes.
We can't do much about the past - but an ongoing attempt to keep things consistent will prevent confusion later.
But please don't misunderstand this - THIS HAS NOTHING to do with production or variations thru manufacturing!!!!! THIS ONLY addresses the inconsistency in how WE describe them - or "decide their color" to each other for the sake of identification.
