Actually my advice is to ignore the other people at the table. Doesn't matter how much they are betting, most of them have no idea what basic strategy is.

Best advice for a new player is get a simple book or stratgey chart and learn basic strategy ... memorize the chart . . . They'll even let you bring the chart to the table at most places.
