Good luck to you and your friend William. I learned on my computer using Avery Cardoza's Casino, very good "expert" advise and the owners manual was the equal to a $25 gambling book.
As for $3 tables, they got 'em all over up in Washington and nobody there can play a lick. A good way to learn is pick a $10 table at a real gambler's place like Caesar's or the Trop when a lot of people are playing green chips. Make a mistake there and you'll find lots of your fellow players will be willing to point it out to you and make all sorts of suggestions for your future...play. Split tens for instance, and you can have the table all to yourself! $10 mistakes serve a better lesson than $3 miscues. You can play at my table though, I play basic strat but enjoy the luck of the play anyway.
