Therein lies the rub. Either nothing can ever be obsolete, because somewhere, somehow, the same chip or an exact likeness can show up as a real, current chip, or we accept the possibility that an obsolete chip can someday somehow be not so obsolete any more.

I think it's a simple matter of being honest about the current state of a chip, to the best of our collective knowledge.
