We had a hard time finding pictures of the Belle that were not copywritten.
The plane on the chip is actually a B 17 named FiFi. It belongs to the Confederate Air Force based in LV. A member of the CAF was kind enough to furnish us the picture. Colonel Morgan had the actual original art work for the Belle nose logo.
The famous nose art on the Belle was created by artist George Petty for Esquire magazine. The "telephone girl" was one of many Petty Girls created for Esquire. Colonel Morgan contacted Petty and received permission to recreate the girl on the Belle. One side of the Bells nose had the girl in a red bathing suit and the other side had her in a blue bathing suit.
The Belle never lost a crew member, and on one mission Colonel Morgan brought her home to England with her tail nearly all the way gone.
I had a lot of fun with these chips and am looking forward to meeting Colonel Morgan on the 25th at a Hollywood style party being thrown for him in Rancho Bel Aire. I am told movie stars and governors will be there. Everyone is wearing flight jackets and kakais. One of the CAF members loaned me a Belle flight jacket to wear.
