... fully appreciated what a good deal we have on gasoline (which is not to say that I like the current prices OR that the big oil companies aren't doing something illegal or unethical; for all I know, they are).

HOWEVER, there is not enough crude oil everywhere in the world for us to continue running a gasoline based transportation system indefinitely. Sooner or later (preferably sooner) SOMEONE is going to have to devise, invent or discover a different energy source for our vehicles.

I think it's BMW that already has an engine or an engine modification that will run on liquid hydrogen. With no polluting byproducts (water only, as I recall being told).

Better yet, invent an engine that will run on salt water and you'll be rich beyond your wildest imagination!!
