Here's my rationale for paying $25 for the chip:
a) it's an interesting older chip with nice hot-stamp design on it, regardless of location;
b) with a 6th edition (or older) TCR, or a 1st edition "Official" book in hand, show the chip to your non-collecting spouse while remarking, "Look what I got for $25! Isn't this a great hobby to spend some money on!" **

** I haven't tried this one yet, but let me know if it works. I have a feeling I may need this excuse after returning from the convention this year.
