Re:SWASTIKA CHIPS
In Response To: Re:SWASTIKA CHIPS ()

Since we're talking antique swastika chips, here's the scoop.

The design first appears in the USPC catalog in 1908, but some sources show them being produced as early as 1904.

The swastika design is common to many North and South American indian tribes, and other cultures as well. In Buddhism, the swastika pattern is considered Buddha's footprint.

In India, the design has spiritual significance for Hindus.

We see a lot of these chips falsely offered on eBay as "Nazi" chips. Even though the chips clearly have nothing to do with the Nazi party, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France have all passed laws prohibiting the trading of swastika item, regardless of any real Nazi connection. So, you can't ship these chips to any of those countries, nor can you sell items with swastikas that may have Native American, Chinese, or India origins.

If you sell the items on eBay, you must either select the "ship to US only" option, or add a disclaimer that says you won't ship to any of those four countries.

Here's an interesting article on "rehabilitating" the swastika.
