Jim, When you accept the check and you do not know the person, do you ask for some form of identification? How can someone, thru the mail or over the internet, look at a drivers license to be sure the person presenting the check is even the one who owns the account.

This may be why sellers want to hold the check for 10 days, to be sure it clears the account. Sort of apples and oranges.
