John Yee in his post asked for other's opinions about the magazine. I gave mine. Evidently it started a big debate while I was away for two days. I in no way indicated that the club magazine was not the best ever .... the current issue most certainly is. I in no way indicated that Mr. Yee and Mr. Anderson did not do an outstanding job on this issue ..... they most certainly did. I merely brought to everyone on this bb's attention what the cost would be IF ALL MAGAZINES WERE SENT VIA PRIORITY MAIL ... AS HAD BEEN SUGGESTED (not by me).
I didn't think then.... and I still don't think now, that the club can afford to take that big a hit on the postage bill to ship 2400 copies of the club magazine at $3.20 each.... at today's current dues structure.... PERIOD! If some want to distort what I posted and insinuate that I'm in favor of cheapening the finished product, or not giving proper credit to the Editors, then you've misread or misinterpreted my post. For those who are paying the extra surcharge money for first class delivery, the $3.20 per pop four times a year for Priority Postage will just about pay for most of the extra $12.80. The club is getting nothing from that $12, it's all going to the U.S. Postal Service... and then some. Those who opted NOT TO pay the extra for First Class, should NOT receive Priority Mailings because someone on this BB suggested that ALL 2,400 members should.
Some of us must have awfully short memories. It wasn't too long ago that there was a big discussion about purchasing some old chip manufacturers records with a significant amount of club treasury dues monies. Then there was another big discussion about purchasing a club building or museum. Now it would appear that there are those on this bb who don't care how big the club magazine becomes, or how slick, or how much it costs to produce .... just do it and send it out to ALL club members at $3.20 a pop for postage. My original posts spoke to the possible need for a dues increase to pay for all these free lunches some folks seem to expect.
So I respectfully request that the club officers go into a huddle when they get a chance and tell us how you plan to deliver future issues of the club magazine if ALL future issues are going to be sent out to everyone, via Priority Mail, without a dues increase, or increased advertising, or without limiting the number of pages per issue.
I'll be leaving again tonight for several days. I'll be looking forward to reading all the magical answer posts when I return on Monday. Have a nice weekend. Go Yankees!
