I don't know exactly what precipitated the rule to require a membership number but I believe Robert's analysis and conclusions are accurate. Let's require a member's ID on each ad so all can know who is responsible for placing the ad.
I would not want to restrict our advertising to members only. Our advertising manager and editor can certainly make a judgement on running ads and should be aware of the person or organization that is advertising. We need to increase advertising and advertising revenues, not place restrictions or make it more difficult for those who are interested in reaching our membership.
I always eagerly await the magazine and the first pages I look at are the ads. I want to see what new items are available for sale and trade. While the number of ads have declined and the internet provides access to many of the chips more immediately, I still enjoy the advertising.
