Jim Gardner posted the following from http://www.vegas.com/gaming/gaming_tips/ :
"Watch for table limits. It seems obvious to check for the minimum bet, but don't forget to check for the table maximum. If the table maximum is $3000, don't expect to be paid $10,000 if you bet $100 playing Caribbean Stud poker and were dealt a Royal Flush with 100:1 odds. You will only receive the maximum $3000."
Question: when I play at a craps table that has $5 min/$2,000 max
I've always assumed that the max was referring to the line bet. So, for instance, one could bet $2,000 on the pass line, and $4,000 as odds (on a double odds table). Suppose the point was a 4, and the shooter hit it. Am I not correct that you would get paid even money on the $2,000 pass line bet, and 2 for 1 on the odds, or $8,000 (in which case the dealer would probably hand you 2 $5,000 chips - or am I to believe that the dealer would hand you 2 $1,000 chips and say, "Sorry, the table maximum is $2,000".)? Also, lets say you were REALLY doing good, and felt for sure that shooter was gonna get his 4. So sure in fact, that you toss out 2 $1,000 chips for the hard 4. Lets say he hits that 4 hard, don't you get paid 7 to 1 or $14,000 (in which case the dealer would hand you 3 $5,000 and 1 $1,000 chip)? Ultimately, is it not true that on a table with such limits, you could have a $2,000 pass line bet with $4,000 behind it as odds, and duplicate that on every number (and hope the shooter rolls until the cows come home!)?
