This may also be the last year for Hialeah Park. They've survived the last few years because of racing laws to protect it, but the laws expire this year. Gulfstream and Calder are planning to expand their meets and leave one week for Hialeah to run unopposed next year.
I went there this weekend for one last time. The place is run down, but you can still feel the history of all the famous horses that have run there over the years. Population shifts, poor management and simulcasting have killed the "Home of The Flamingo".
I'm trying to convince my wife to let me put the Citation Statue or the Flamingo Fountain in my back yard after they close the track. Maybe Bob G. can help me get them through the gates without anybody noticing
