I'm new here so bear with me. I feel you have to draw a line between chip collecting as a hobby and chip collecting as a business.
What I assume started out as a hobby for a lot of you, with trading, bartering, etc., has over the years turned into serious chip collecting and selling for many others. This is very much evidenced by all the Ebay posts on the board. I had no idea there were so many web sites selling chips, strikes, etc. until I started selling and investigating chips.
I'm not a hobbyist or a collector, Ebay is my hobby as I have said before and I buy privately and sell to the highest bidder as everyone on Ebay does.
Baseball cards used to be a hobby for teenagers and look what happened there. Casino chips are on that track too and I think it is inevitable.
If you are truly a hobbyist then trade, barter and do whatever you LIKE doing; but don't fight with the business end of chip collecting, I'm afraid it's here to stay.
All this wasted energy on the board...just do whatever pleases you - be it hobby or business.
That's all folks!
