Jim, Good questions.
Both John and CT have contacted me in the last day. I am only relating what they are saying to me. The BB postings speak for themselves while the emails and other contact is directly between each of them and other members.
I feel that Andy's post is confrontational.
His post was as follows:
"I have not seen the current club magazine yet, but from what I hear it looks like John Yee is leaning towards being in favor of slabbing! If I'm wrong then please correct me John & explain why you would allow such an ad to be placed in the magazine."
Andy is asking for an explanation before reading the magazine. Why does John have to come on the BB and explain himself to someone who has not yet read the magazine? Andy was probably reacting to other posters. Knowing Andy, he is smart enough to form his own opinions after reading the entire issue. There is extreme balance - 2 articles by anti-slabbers, you and Archie, an historical article by Howdy and an article by ICG. John, in his Letter from the Editor, expresses no opinion. The ad, while technically not correct in the use of the logo, was within acceptable standards.
My postings have been in response to what I feel is undue criticism of individuals, not in defense of the ad and certainly not in defense of slabbing. But,I will always step forward to speak in favor of those who volunteer their time to this club and to the hobby.
I feel that in their ad, ICG used tactics meant to boost its' reputation and standing. By using our logo and the ANA logo, they purposely put their product in our face and connected their product with the two organizations. The logo was very prominent, no doubt with a specific intent. I do not like this since they have taken advantage of our usage guidelines. I think it shows ICG's true colors. Anti-slabbers should use it against ICG as an example of how ICG operates.
The logo issue will be discussed by the incoming Board.
Jim, I look forward to seeing you at the Trop.
Nate
