Jill; Words take on different meanings as time evolves. The word "gay" used to mean something completely different than it does today.
Some of those who have been on this bb for a couple of years now will recall the discussion about Eisenhower dollars that were being offered by a gasoline station promotion as "silver dollars". Of course they were talking about the coin's color ... not the precious metals content.
I'm 99% certain, that if I took my question about
the definition of "obsolete" before a group of coin collectors at next month's Ocean County Coin Club, they would offer a different opinion on their definition of "obsolete" coins than your conclusion.
Having said that, I think I'm going to accept an email recommendation I received late last night, that I don't include the word "obsolete" in the glossary as there is too much of a wide separation among chippers as to what the word really means... and whatever description is eventually published, it more than likely will not be universally accepted. Too many chip collectors have too many different opinions on this one.
Perhaps club Magazine Editor John Yee might want to conduct a poll in the next issue of the club magazine?
