Andy,
I repeat - the board does not endorse private enterprises. ANY club member has the right to place an ad in the club magazine. It is not up to the editor, ad manager, or board to discriminate against any club member. Just because one person (or a group) does not like some aspect of our collecting community, does not mean that the whole collecting community should have to follow the same beliefs.
If you(or anyone else) does not like slabbing, don't participate in buying or supporting the venture. Another post mentioned the slabbing connection to that of rats. It is easy to get rid of rats; if no one feeds them they will go away. But the more attention that is made toward the rats, the more people will pay attention to them.
I am still against slabbing and still feel the same way I did before - no benefit to our hobby.
Casino collectors are a varied bunch and collect many different types of items. How about prohibiting the sale of roulette chips at the convention? After all selling these violate our clubs Code of Ethics since they are technically stolen from the casinos. How about prohibiting the sale of key chains that hold chips, or plastic flips, or cardboard holders as all these encase a chip as do the slabs. Grading can be put on a cardboard holder the same as on a slab.
Just some thoughts for the day.......
