I'm a direct descendant of Roger Williams. My grandfather, Calvin Williams, received invitations to every presidential inauguration while he was alive because of the relation.

When Roger Williams set out to establish the town of Providence, he did something that was unheard of at the time. The land was occupied by a tribe of Native Americans. He bought the land from them, paid them fair market value for it.
