Some intereting ideas. I'm not sure I understand why you feel chips selling for less than perceived value is bad for the hobby? I can see Ebay is bad for chip dealers but I'm less convinced it's bad for the hobby. I think Ebay bring the wholesale and retail prices of chips much closer together. Imagine a collector of LEs who passes away. His family wants to turn the collection into cash. How much do you figure the average dealer would give them for a collection of 1,000 relatively common $5 LEs? I'm guessing you'd be lucky to get $3,000 cash for it from a dealer. On the other hand with patience they could put them on Ebay and average what? maybe $6.00 each? Would put an extra 3 grand in the hands of family. Seems to me in cases like that Ebay is very good for collectors and their families. The situation may be different for collectors of higher-end chips. But for the majority of chip collectors, who collect for fun, who just enjoy the little packages in the mailbox regularly, Ebay is a big plus.
