PALA CASINO OPEN
SAN DIEGO, California -- The $115 million Pala Casino, owned by the Pala Band of
Mission Indians, has opened. It is in northern San Diego County on State Highway 76, five
miles off Interstate 15. A subsidiary of Anchor Gaming along with gaming executive Jerome
H. Turk were involved in development of the project and will assist in managing it.
Pala is California's first casino, offering all the elements of Las Vegas-style gaming, built
since the passage of Proposition 1A. The 185,000 square foot casino features 2,000 slot and
video machines, 46 gaming tables, a high limit gaming and lounge area and a non-smoking
gaming area that comprises 25 percent of the casino floor.
Pala has six restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining, with seating both indoors and
outdoors on a large terrace overlooking Pala Lake and mountains, two entertainment venues
and a 20,000 square foot events center seating 2,000 for concerts, boxing and banquets.
