Steve, you have a valid point to some degree.
When we are talking about a unique piece the value is truly based upon a persons willingness to pay not a grading system.
Here, we are dealing with a piece of history.

While perhaps a poor comparison if we had a Rembrandt painting with a visible tear in it I doubt that it would diminish its value any.
