Some things to consider.
It was a sports chip. There is still a substantial sports collectible market. Someone who isn't a casino chip collector could have grabbed the rest to corner that share of the market.
People have tried hoarding specific issues before. 200 chips = $1000. They sat on them and finally found their investment was preforming worse than an interest bearing checking account. ;-) Thus they dumped them for face or slightly over.
As a member of the "Just say no to LEs." club, I can say just let the hoarders choke on these. There are enough nice other LEs out there to skip one now and then. For good reason as well.
Last of all, if someone else bought the rest, they know they would be as welcome as ants at a picnic, so they aren't about to go blabbing after seeing how well received anyone is, who tries to corner the market and screw the rest of the collectors.
