Thunderbird did to have an inlaid chip. It is listed in my book as the 3rd issue. It is a "red" type of color, & has 4 mustard inserts. It does exist i have seen it! It is from Las Vegas. What else did they use in 48. There were plenty of small key Nevada chips. I do not believe the arrowdies were in use. The H mold definetly wasn't. I am positive they had a small key. Terry Lazarus has the rare $25's that are silk screened. an early type of printing on chips. This $25 of Terrys is in a lucite type board he brought to show many of us at our 99 convention I believe it was. With this were all Nevada chips, many we had never seen. Dice too. Read page 205 about Harold's Club. There were others I don't recall right now but all were right around late 40's to early 50's. The Pioneer Club 1st issue $100 was one & maybe the $20 & red $25.
I appreciate Mark Ericksons post further down where there were many regarding Thunderbird chips & Jimbom Jim Perlowski who says for sure the chips Rene bought from us are not Nevada. Some of his comments do make sense. We will probably never know. If I knew for sure they weren't then they wouldn't be listed. Other chips in question were pulled from our first book. Others can be puled form the 2nd as well if the proof is given to validate the theory.
As for the new guy who doesn't know me & says why didn't I slowly sell them for top dollar & not let anyone know or throw some away, etc. Why? Because I have a reputation & a very good business sense. I have no reason to do a stupid thing like that & ruin my business & credability in this hobby. Would any collector really destroy a bunch of chips? No way! That would be history lost to future collectors. 600 may sound like a lot now but someday that won't be!
We sold all the chips to Steve Cutler & Rich Burgel as a business decision to not handle quantities of chips & have to keep tract of money to split 4 ways. The convention was beginning & we knew if they didn't buy them, another dealer who handles more low end chips would. I personally did not sell any chips to Rene or his friends, one of my partners did, after we the owners decided on a fair price. I guess it was unfortunate that Rene was then given the chips to sell to tarnish the old chips reputation in the chip board police's eyes.
